Standard Switches
SPST (Single pole, single throw) - This switch is much like a light switch, with two terminals either connected together o not connected to anything.
SPDT (Single pole, double throw) - This switch can be used to change over current, normally refered to as an ON-ON switch. This switch can be on in both positions, switching on a separate device in each case.
DPST (Double pole, single throw) - Offen used to switch electricity because it can isolate both the live and neutral connections. This is a pair of on-off switches which operate together.
DPDT (Double pole, double throw) - Also know as a reversing switch, this switch is a pair of ON-ON switches which operate together.
