Dow-Key® – launches new high performance product line: 10 million life cycles RF switch with 0.03 dB insertion loss repeatability

Dow-Key® Microwave announces the release of its new high-performance product series called Reliant Switch™ with a SPDT being the first RF switch in this series made available to the RF & test industry.

Engineers performing system integration in telecommunication and component manufacturing are faced with a range of challenges relating to the cost of test and the reliability over test systems’ life expectancy. RF tests across DUT’s require maintaining high insertion loss repeatability between ports to increase the measurement accuracy and reduce the source of errors in the measurement path. In addition, a longer life expectancy will keep the cost of replacing RF switches to a minimum thereby reducing the downtime and improving overall test efficiency.

In addressing these challenges, Dow-Key® now offers a solution combining excellent electrical and mechanical performance over a broad frequency band with high isolation, low VSWR, long life, and exceptional insertion loss repeatability. The first release of Reliant Switch™ product line is a 1×2 bidirectional coaxial switch with an operating frequency range from DC to 26.5 GHz covering the typical 6 GHz test frequency for high-speed testing. The switch is designed with a high isolation of 85 dB at 4 GHz maintaining the integrity of the measured signal in port-to-port testing. The Reliant Switch™ SPDT can sustain a guaranteed insertion loss repeatability of 0.03 dB across the entire frequency band from DC to 26 GHz. It also has an extended life where each position can switch a minimum of 10 Million cycles, which is a 10X improvement over a typical RF switch.

To meet a variety of test & measurement setups and signal switching configurations, the Reliant Switch™ is offered with latching actuators, optical position indicators and SMA connectors. The 1×2 switch operates in break-before-make mode with 150W CW input power at 3 GHz (cold-switching). In hot-switching applications, a maximum of 2W CW can be applied to the input port(s) across the frequency band.

The Reliant Switch™ SPDT has a switching time of 15 ms and it is offered with a nominal power supply voltages of +12Vdc or +24Vdc. The switch can be controlled by applying ground to close the desired port, but it is also available to be controlled via TTL logic (by applying +5vdc to close a port or +0Vdc to open a port).

Both Reliant Switch™ SPDT switch options can operate over a -25°C to +75°C temperature range and be stored between -55°C to +85°C. For antenna and radar related applications, the switch operates up to 15,000 ft and can be stored at 50,000 ft without any performance degradation.

Dow-Key® Microwave’s new Reliant Switch™ product line is economically priced to minimize impact to budgetary concerns and are designed to deliver its specified performance over the life of the switch. Customers now have the flexibility to choose between life expectancy and cost without sacrificing switch performance.

Dow-Key® Microwave Releases SP6T High Performance Switch to the Reliant Switch™ Product Series

Dow-Key Microwave now offers a complete solution for Automated Test Equipment (ATE) applications with the recent release of the Reliant R461, a 1×6 bidirectional coaxial switch from the Reliant Switch™ product series.

The addition to the Reliant Switch™ product series now offers a 1×6 bidirectional coaxial switch with an operating frequency from DC to 26.5 GHz, covering the typical 6 GHz test range for high-speed testing. The Reliant R461 switch is designed with a high isolation of 100 dB (up to 12.4 GHz) to maintain RF consistency between port-to-port testing.

The switch can operate in break-before-make (cold-switching) or make-before-break (hot switching) applications and has a switching speed of 15ms. Moreover, the Reliant R461JK switch can sustain a guaranteed insertion loss repeatability of 0.03 dB across the entire frequency band. It is offered with 50-ohm 2W terminated ports, latching actuators, SMA connectors, and optical position indicators while providing an extended life cycle where each position can switch a minimum of 5-Million cycles – a 5 X improvement from a typical multi-position switch.

A variety of control options are available including controlling the switch with +24Vdc coil voltage, or using TTL or CAN bus logic. For more sophisticated control solutions, the CAN bus interface can be converted to Ethernet or GPIB with RS-232 and USB controls by adding an external Dow-Key designed controller board.

The final configuration of the 1×6 R461 Reliant Switch™ is now available for deliveries.

Dow-Key® – releases R521 high performance switch to The Reliant Switch™ product series – Your ATE Solution

Dow-Key® Microwave introduces a new switch product to their high performance product series called Reliant Switch™; a terminated SPDT switch available with or without TTL control is entering the market. The Reliant Switch™ product line is economically priced to minimize impact to budgetary concerns and are designed to deliver its specified performance over the life of the switch. Customers now have the flexibility to choose between life expectancy and cost without sacrificing switch performance.

The addition to the Reliant Switch™ product line is the R521-series bidirectional 1×2 terminated coaxial switch. Each RF port of the SPDT switch will internally be terminated to a 2W 50-ohm termination when not in operation; making it an ideal switch for routing and testing WLANs, WiMAX LTE/4G/5G networks and separating signal sources in multi-band receiver/transmitter antenna applications operating from DC up 26.5 GHz. The switch has successfully been tested to sustain a guaranteed insertion loss repeatability of 0.03 dB across the entire frequency band and outperformed an extended life with a minimum of 10 Million cycles per switch position, which is a 10X improvement over a typical SPDT switch.

Covering DC to 26.5 GHz, the bidirectional coaxial switch has a maximum insertion loss of 0.42 dB up to 4 GHz and 0.80 dB at 26.5 GHz and the repeatability of the insertion loss is guaranteed to be 0.03 dB across the entire operating band. The design offers a low VSWR: 1.15:1 up to 4 GHz and 1.50:1 at 26.5 GHz. Further, the switch is designed with a high isolation: 85 dB at 4 GHz and no less than 60 dB at 26.5 GHz. To meet a variety of test & measurement setups and signal switching configurations, the Reliant Switch™ is offered with latching self cut-off actuators, optical position indicators and SMA connectors. The terminated SPDT R521K-series switch operates in break-before-make mode and handles 150 W CW input power at 3 GHz.

Miniature MS-Series Matrix™

Introducing the new product generation of switch matrices: The Miniature MS-series matrix.

This mini matrix is an ideal switch solution for Test & Measurement requirements; designed and built with the Reliant Switch™ product series in mind. The MMS-series can be used in many applications where RF switches are needed and it is not restricted to VNA’s extension only. Furthermore, to support extensive testing on DUT’s, the MMS-series matrix model is equipped with high performance Reliant Switches™ with 0.03 dB insertion loss repeatability across DC to 26.5 GHz and a minimum of 10 Million Life Cycles for SPDT and 5 Million Life Cycles for SP6T.

The miniature sized enclosure can be populated on the front panel with maximum of:

  • (8) SPDT Reliant Switches™
  • (2) SP6T Reliant Switches™
  • (1) SP6T + (4) SPDT Reliant Switches™
  • (2) SP6T + (1) SPDT Reliant Switches™

The MMS-series needs 12Vdc power supply and the switches can be controlled remotely via TCP/IP Ethernet and HTTP-Server, which has a built-in “Sequencer” feature that allows the user to program up to ten 500-step sequence programs.

No RF cables are provided with this solution.
